Random Thoughts after watching the Hacksaw Ridge

After went to the London Panton Street Odeon, I almost have been to all the odeon cinema in London besides Swiss Cottage, maybe next time~ This odeon is relatively inconspicuous comparing with the Leicester square odeon which is close to it.

After the journey to Norway, we were afraid some films were going to end in the cinema, so we quickly booked two films, one is hacksaw Ridge, another is Jackie. However, I never imaged that until today, we can also see these film in the cinema. Surprisingly, I  can’t find any cinema showing the Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk directed by Ang Lee, it just showed around 2 weeks, I am so surprised and upset…

Coming back to that day, we went to see the Hacksaw Ridge. We could not deny that it is a great film. Although I have complained the plot in terms of the main character Desmond if he refused to use the gun, why he insisted being a soldier and went to the battleground. But when the film showed the cruel scene in the battle I still can’t help crying. And saw Desmond saved so many people by himself, it was impressive and shocking. Needless to say in the reality, he saved more people in more cruel and tough situation. This is the film not only about war, more about the belief. After the film, the biggest and sincere wishes in my mind is the peace in the world!!

Another thing is that it is surprised for me to see some aged coming to the cinema. At first, I went to BFI to watch the film were always rounded by the aged. I supposed it is related to the film is the classic film which is attractive to them, especially, the BFI could be regarded as the ex-art-film line. Nevertheless, these days in the odeon I also always see lots of the aged to see the recent film. It is quite different compared with China. The only time I saw the old went to the cinema to see the film is the film named Song of the Phoenix directed by Wu Tianming,  a Chinese film director, and producer who was considered one of the leading “Fourth Generation” directors.

It is quite different compared with China. The only time I saw the old went to the cinema to see the film was the film named Song of the Phoenix directed by Wu Tianming,  a Chinese film director, and producer who was considered one of the leading “Fourth Generation” directors. this film about the traditional cultural heritage: suona horn. but more than the suona horn, it is about the develop of the art film, it is about the director himself and that generation. This film is the swansong of himself and recommended by many directors and film critiques, but it was not attractive to the majority audience in China since the majority cinema audience is the youth in China who are not interested in art film even don’t know who is Wu Tianming. So that day, the screen beside our 6 friends and several youths are less than 10 the youth to see the movie. The majority of the audience are middle-aged and elderly people, especially, there was the old man with a cane trembling walked to the screen impressed me a lot, I thought this kind of situation was rare in Chinese cinema anymore.

I don’t know since when going to the cinema become the priority of the youth in China. The cinema is occupied by the cinema. At first, Unless I invited my parents to the cinema, they would not actively go to the cinema. After several invitations, they gradually would like to go the cinema. This Chinese new year, they just went to the cinema to see the film, which made me a lot surprised but also happy. Going to the cinema is never the priority of anyone!
